Who We Serve / Organizational Overview


Target Population

Adults with severe mental illness with or without co-occurring disorders such as substance abuse and children/adults with developmental disabilities. The program serves approximately 4000 consumers.

Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare serves a regional catchment area that includes consumers from Catawba County, Alexander County, Caldwell County, Burke County, Lincoln County, Iredell County and beyond.

  • Outpatient Treatment (assessment/therapy/counseling/medication management)
  • ACT team (Assertive Community Treatment Team)
  • Connections Psycho-social Rehabilitation (therapeutic clubhouse) Program
  • LifeSkills (skills training day treatment program for consumers with developmental disabilities).
  • Residential Services: 5 group homes, 1 supervised apartment program and other residential placements.
  • Mobile Crisis (24 hour 7 days a week for emergencies)

Innovative Treatment Philosophies

  • Recovery Model Approach: Hope, Consumer Empowerment, Self-Help Support Groups, Natural Supports, movement toward self-sufficiency and increased independence.
  • Integrated Mental Health/Substance Abuse Treatment: Specialized services for those consumers with dual diagnosis that addresses both mental health and substance abuse issues simultaneously through an integrated approach.
  • Person Centered Planning: Consumers are actively involved in identifying the outcomes they hope to reach and set goals to work toward those outcomes. Goals are centered on the individual's preferences and promote consumer ownership of the planning process.
