Who We Serve

We serve people with Medicaid or Medicare, those who are uninsured and underinsured, those who are homeless, those without documentation, and those who are incarcerated or recently incarcerated. When needed, we help those we serve address non-medical issues that affect health outcomes, such as housing, food security, relationships, and employment. CVH is devoted to serving people who may face barriers receiving treatment elsewhere.

We are a Non-Profit with the Motto, “Where Health & Hope Meet”

Catawba Valley Healthcare is a 501(c)(3) comprehensive non-profit healthcare provider whose motto is “Where Health and Hope Meet.” We strive to treat each person the way we would want our own loved ones to be treated, with:

  • Compassion
  • Competence
  • Commitment to excellence

We promote the strengths of those we serve by encouraging independence and advocacy. At the same time, we support those who are, or may become, vulnerable because of lack of access to healthcare. We support those who are, or may become, marginalized due to social, economic, or medical conditions.

We recently changed our name from Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare to Catawba Valley Healthcare (CVH) to emphasize whole-person treatment that integrates primary care and behavioral healthcare. We recognize that the mind and body work together and must be treated together to achieve the best health outcomes.

A Brief History

CVH was established on January 1, 2005 when many services provided by Catawba County Mental Health were transferred to CVH (then known as Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare). We soon expanded into Burke County. We added a Peer Support program in 2011 and added integrated care in 2013. In 2015, we added substance use disorder services for adults incarcerated in Burke, Catawba, and Lincoln Counties.

CVH services are open to people from all walks of life, and we accept most major third-party insurance. Still, CVH has always focused on serving financially needy individuals with behavioral health conditions. More than 95% of those we serve are financially needy with serious mental illnesses, substance use disorders, or intellectual/developmental disabilities. We serve over 6,000 individuals annually.

Our Collaborative Partnerships and Grants

CVH has collaborative relationships with partners such as local area hospitals, including Catawba Valley Medical Center and Frye Regional Medical Center; outreach ministries, including Cooperative Christian Ministries and Exodus Works; Genoa Pharmacy; law enforcement agencies, and substance use treatment providers.

CVH has received numerous grants from State and Federal agencies, the Carpenter Foundation, The Duke Endowment (in partnership with Catawba Valley Medical Center), Sisters of Mercy Foundation, Kate B. Reynolds  Charitable Trust, Cannon Foundation, and many others.

Catawba Valley Healthcare continues to pursue additional opportunities to provide high-quality services. CVH is proud to be nationally accredited by CARF,  demonstrating our mission to provide high-quality, evidence-based services and continually improve our agency.
